The Richmond Brain Tumor Support Group (BTSG) was founded in 1990 by Donna Gammon BSN as part of a class project while studying to become a nurse. The group first met as a brown bag lunch discussion hosted at various locations (including a stint at Saxon Shoes when the president of the store was diagnosed), and is now headquartered in Richmond, Virginia.
The Richmond Brain Tumor Support Group is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to providing support for brain tumor survivors and their loved ones, promoting awareness for brain tumor issues, and advocating for brain tumor research in Central Virginia.
Brain Tumor Action Week at the beginning of May each year provides opportunities for promoting awareness. Past events have included trips to Washington DC to attend a national meeting on brain tumor issues, setting up information tables at area hospitals, and even a benefit concert produced by members of our group.
We get together just for fun at our Holiday Party. Other past special events have included trips to sporting events such as VCU basketball, the Richmond Flying Squirrels, and the Richmond Kickers.
An annual event put on by the National Brain Tumor Society to raise awareness of brain tumors is the RVA Brain Tumor 5K Race and Family Fun Walk. The event is held in Scott's Addition around the first of November.
Our monthly meetings take place via Zoom from 6:30 - 8pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Click below to join a meeting.
